Isla Mujeres is a tiny island off the coast of Cancun, Mexico. It is well known for having beautiful white sand beaches and the largest aggregation of whale sharks on the planet every summer. We will swim with them in private boats, and hopefully meet mantas and mobula rays at the same time!
For divers, the conditions and marine life are perfect. There is little current on most dives, relatively shallow very colorful reefs, visibility consistently between 80-100ft (24-30 meters) and abundant marine life.
There are gentle drift dives, swim throughs, tunnels, overhangs, ledges and arches, even wrecks (one with mantas!) and an underwater museum!
The snorkeling at Isla Mujeres is spectacular, so bring your non-diving buddy along!
We will dive or snorkel El Museo Subaquatico de Arte, a modern underwater museum with a display of
over 500 sculptures by multiple artists. A unique collection to be sure!
Above water the island offers Mayan ruins, kayaks, golf carts to tour the island on your own, street art, fishing, lots of shopping and restaurants as well as gorgeous views from many locations. Additionally, you can rent a moped, motorized bike or scooter.
Conservation
We have the following conservation activities:

We will do underwater clean up, as needed on select dives

We will do a beach or pier cleanup.
We will be staying in the center of the island in beautiful accommodations, very close to our dive operator Casa Del Buceo. We have chosen to dive with a very highly regarded local Dive Shop who have an extremely good safety practices AND exceptional customer service.
Casa del Buceo will take us out for whale shark swimming very early in the morning in order to have private time with the whale sharks! They also allow as many jumps as we want, until we are exhausted, unlike other operators who allow only two per person.
The dive guides are exceptional, again local, who have mapped new dive sites and we will be able to dive beautiful reefs that are not regularly frequented.
We will have a lunchtime picnic on a beautiful beach, a sunset happy hour at the South Point of the island, opportunities for underwater and topside cleanup.
We will have a ‘home base’ next door to the dive shop where we will have breakfast available every day. This beautiful space is on the water, with gorgeous views. We will also have a chef prepared meal one evening and a celebration barbecue on our last evening together.
Get ready for real relaxation!
Flights: Into and out of Cancun. Arrive early afternoon and depart late morning or after. Transfers take about one and a half hours total; road for 30 minutes, ferry for 30 minutes to get to Isla Mujeres.
